Do Bug Bombs Kill Bed Bugs?

I have gone to many homes where people have used bed bug bombs. Since bed bug removal can prove to be extremely pricy many people have turned to DIY techniques to get rid of their problem.

So do bed bug bombs kill bed bugs? Yes, bed bug bombs do kill bed bugs. Bed bug bombs purchased from normal consumers, however, bug bombs will not completely stop a bed bug infestation all on its own. Most commercial applicators that use a “bug bomb” or flushing agent will only do it as an initial knockdown.

The control of bed bugs can be achieved through commercial chemicals, dust, heat treatments, or HEPA vacuums. Some use all these methods and some will pick and choose which ones they are comfortable with performing.

How Long Does It Take For Foggers To Kill Bed Bugs?

Foggers will kill bed bugs that they can reach instantly. They are not a bad choice for an initial application, but if you plan to take on the whole clan you will need a lot more than a box store bed bug bomb to eliminate an infestation. If bed bugs are hiding between a mattress or in between the wall they will not be affected by a bug bomb that cannot penetrate those areas.

On another note, bed bug eggs will not be affected by a bug bomb either, and with their life cycle renewing every day or so you can plan on needing multiple applications to rid yourself of these pesky creatures.

Keep in mind and it says this directly on the fogger can that it kills existing bed bugs on contact. This means that the chemical has to reach the bed bug and touch them in order to kill them.

The problem with that is unless bed bugs have come out to have a blood meal their usual behavior is to hide while they mate, produce eggs and sleep.

So a Bed Bug Bomb alone can not get rid of your bed bug issue.

SO what does Kill Bed Bugs? Read on to find my guide for bed bug treatment and the most effective, fast, and bargain treatments there are for bed bugs.

What Kills Bed Bugs Instantly?

I wrote another article about this you can check it out here.

Heat treatment will get you the most instant results in killing bed bugs. This is also the least cost-effective way to get rid of bed bugs.

The reason that this treatment is so effective is that if you can heat your home up to 115 F-120 F

You can kill not only bed bugs but you will also eliminate their eggs and larvae as well.

Heat treatment should also not be the only way you get rid of the bed bugs, for example, if you put the heaters in your home and the bed bugs migrate between the insulation in the walls and the outer wall of your home, they could still come back to bite you. It is important to add a chemical barrier or dust along the bed and the inside perimeter walls at the base molding areas.

How Do I Get Rid Of Bed Bugs At A Bargain?

Just to give you an example of what a bargain is let me tell you that if you have pay for a bed bug service it can cost several hundred to upwards of 2 thousand dollars to fully get rid of the problem for you.

If you want to tackle this obstacle yourself you will spend a little over one hundred dollars.

To get rid of them this way you will get to use commercial chemicals and by the time you have rid yourself of them, you will be a pro.

Go to my recommended products page and read the directions below and download the free bed bug pre/post-treatment checklist. It really is free and I don’t ask for your email or personal info. I truly want your bed bug problems gone.

The chemicals you will need are Temprid SC, Nygard IGR and a 1-gallon spray can… If you already have the spray can then just grab the other 2 chemicals and you are ready to start.

If you want to make sure that all your grounds are covered you can get the bellows duster recommended in there and the CimeXa silica dust…

I also list in full detail where to treat how much you should use etc.

Check it out if you want to. If not keep reading I will touch on some more hot topics for bed bugs.

Most Effective Bed Bug Treatment?

Whether you use Heat or chemical they are both really effective.

I advocate more for the chemical treatment on account of the cost and the fact that it is just as efficient as heat. It just takes 3-4 treatments to produce the same results.

The heat treatment is great as well and works quickly. If going fast is what you want this works, but you will pay for it. If that is okay with you make sure to contact a local pest professional with years of experience in the removal of bed bugs.

What Are Some Non-Chemical Bed Bug Treatments?

  1. Heat Treatment – We have talked about heat treatment a couple of times, it does not have to have a chemical application to get rid of bed bugs and as I mentioned it can work in a matter of several hours.
  2. CimeXa Dust – CimeXa Is not a chemical at all, it is silica that has been shaved down into dust. CimeXa can be applied along all your baseboards and around bed frames and in upholstered furniture. You will need to wear a paper mask to apply it because once you release it into the air it goes everywhere. This is why it is important to shut off your HVAC System while applying this treatment. CimeXa takes from 3-4 months to get rid of your bed bugs. But you will only need to apply 1 application. Once the dust from your application you can go back to living life as usual.
  3. Steam Treatment –  Steam treatment will take several applications but you will use a steamer on all the beds and upholstered furniture. The steam will destroy existing bed bug populations. Usually, this treatment is used with a thorough HEPA Vacuum treatment which leads me to my final treatment option.
  4. HEPA Vacuum Treatment –  This is not a normal vacuum, this vacuum costs several hundreds of dollars and seals everything, which means whatever gets into the vacuum is not getting out whether the vacuum is on or off. I really love the HEPA vacuum it can be used in a myriad of treatments, but for topic sake, we will stick to bed bugs. You will want to vacuum everything thoroughly from beds to furniture to and along all walls where the floor meets to make sure that you get all the existing bed bugs and the eggs get vacuumed up as well. This application can take several attempts because of the unknown whereabouts of the entire infestation that you are treating.
