Spider Sprays: Top 5 Brands For DIY Pest Control

If you want to treat for spiders on your own either you are tired of paying a pest company or other brands you have tried in the past have not worked, well this is the article to read.

I have been in the pest industry for many years now and there are lots of chemicals that are put out by different companies that are very effective. Some of the things you will want to know are can I easily do this myself, how well does it work, and how much is it going to cost me.

My top 5 spider spray brands are Demand CS, Cyzmic CS, Onslaught Fast Cap, Talstar P,  and Bifen IT (Do My Own links for these products). These chemicals are the VERY BEST at getting rid of spiders. There are many more chemicals that I didn’t mention that almost made the list. I will go into more details about what each one of these chemicals is good for in just a little bit.

When I say that these chemicals are the very best, that is my personal opinion just to be clear.

Top 5 Brands Of Spider Spray

In my opinion, these are the top 5 spider spray brands to use for DIY Pest Control.

  • Demand CS-  This is my very favorite spider spray to recommend. Demand CS Can be used inside or outside of the home, this chemical when it dries it microencapsulates which means whether the chemical is wet or dry it is coated with a protective polymer coating that allows the chemical to continually release over a long period of time making it very effective at spider control. Demand CS can be applied Inside your home along the baseboards to provide long protection from spiders or outside your home as well which makes this chemical to pest applicators an industry standard.
  • Cyzmic CS- This is also a chemical that microencapsulates it has the same active ingredient as Demand CS but is a little cheaper to buy. The active ingredient in these 2 chemicals is called Lambda-Cyhalothrin. Cyzmic is a great contender when it comes to treating your home inside or outside.
  • Onslaught Fast Cap- This chemical also microencapsulates it does not have the same active ingredient as the first 2 chemicals. Onslaught Fast Cap’s active ingredients are Esfenvalerate and Prallethrin. This chemical can be used indoors or outdoors and works well on either application.
  • Talstar P- should be used outside of the home the active ingredient is bifenthrin and lasts about 30 days. The benefit of using bifenthrin is that it has an immediate knockdown it is a cheaper chemical to buy.
  • Bifen IT- has the same active ingredient as Talstar P which is bifenthrin These chemicals are labeled to be used inside or outside the only issue I found with using either of these chemicals inside is that it leaves a Milky residue on your hardwood floors when you use them inside.

What Should I Avoid When Spraying For Spiders

  1. Avoid spraying on and around children’s toys. For some reason, my kids still put things that they shouldn’t in their mouths and they are old enough to know better.
  2. Water bowls should be avoided to make sure that you don’t contaminate any pet drinking sources.
  3. Drain areas lead to other water sources and unless the label of the chemical you are using specifies otherwise you should not make it a habit to spray in drains.
  4. Indoor vents and areas that you HVAC Filters are. I will say it is fine to spray these areas if you turn your heater or air conditioner off while you spray and wait for the chemical to completely dry before turning it back on. Otherwise, I would avoid spraying them to reduce the risk of contaminating your breathable air.
  5. Bird baths and koi ponds. Since all the chemicals I recommended are very bad for birds and fish, it would be good to avoid spraying near places they will be.

How Do I Decide What Spider Spray To Buy

Not all chemicals are created equal. For example, there are some that should only be used outside Like Talstar Pro and Bifen IT and there are some that can be used for both like Demand CS, Onslaught Fast Cap, and Cyzmic CS. You could use the first 2 chemicals mentioned in this paragraph inside your home, but if you have hardwood floors they will usually leave a white milky residue which is why I say you should just use them outside.

Another thing to think about is where are the problem areas on your home? If you don’t have too many problems inside and you are thinking about just spraying the outside and the garage/carport area I would say the 2 best choices would be either Talstar P or Bifen IT. They are cheaper chemicals and are very effective for taking down spiders, however, they only last from 21-30 days then you would need to reapply them to keep the barrier up.

If you go for the Demand CS, Onslaught Fast Cap, and Cyzmic CS, these chemicals all microencapsulate making them last between 30-50 days. You will pay a little more money for these chemicals, but it isn’t much when you think about how many applications each bottle you purchase will provide for your home.

The last thing before you buy your own spider spray is; you need to decide if doing this service on your own is right for you. I will say it is definitely not rocket science, however, the chemicals you are using should be used, stored, and treated with care. Make sure you read the label so that you know the proper attire to wear for that particular chemical. The label will always have instructions, mixture rates, and warnings written on them. As a matter of fact, before you purchase one of these fine chemicals you can always look up the product label online. Make sure it is the right product label associated with your state or country. This will give you a good idea for what to expect and what you should buy.

Should I Buy My Chemicals From Big Box Stores

I wouldn’t. The big box store sells what they are legally licensed to sell the general public. Most of the chemicals you find on the bottle are about 100 times less effective than the chemicals I just recommended to you. I am not going to tell you what to do because this is obviously your decision. However, the best results come from the best products, as long as they are used as directed.

There are still great Pest products I feel you can buy from a big box store. I will list some off here.

    • Bug Zapper
    • Wasp/Hornet Spray- I recommend getting the spectracide brand for paper wasps grab the foam spray unless they are higher than 15’ in the air, then I would get the same brand but the one that says it delivers an electric shock to them… both of these sprays are a good buy.
    • Terro – For ants, this is a good start, I love that it isn’t a contact killer and it does help. If you want to get rid of ants once and for all read my ant post.
    • Mouse Poison- this is good but again there are better mouse treatment options that you can get your hands on.

That is really where it ends for me at least.

*Pest Insider Secret* (not really a secret but this is just not widely known)

You can use commercial grade pesticides as long as you are only treating your own home with them.

*Last Tip*   When you are treating for spiders you will want to knock down and brush away all spider webs and spider egg sacks. Spiders don’t invade your home like normal pests they like eating other arthropods. So keep your home clear of other pests that try to get in your home and you will do a good job of getting rid of the spiders as well.

Conclusion

Whatever spider spray you choose, I recommend that you do go this route instead of the big box stores. The results are far better using one of these chemicals that will provide immediate results. Like I mentioned earlier this is the best way to get rid of spiders in your home I recommend all 5 of the chemicals I put in the post, they all have an immediate knockdown and will give you the desired result you are looking for.  Once you choose your spider spray, make sure that you store it safely and use it only as the label directs.

Best Spray Can For Pest Control

The spray can I recommend for pest control is the 1-gallon B&G spray can.  It’s PERFECT for pest maintenance! This spray can has a 4-way tip for pin stream and fan spray capabilities, and most of the pieces are replaceable and customizable. If you have more area to treat and you don’t want to constantly fill your can you may want to consider the 2-gallon B&G spray can. Both of these options are a great way to do pest control in your home accurately.

What Time Of Year Do Spiders Lay Eggs

I have always wondered about this even before I became a pest exterminator.

What time of year do spiders lay their eggs? The brief answer is spider multiply all year. Even though they will appear less active in the winter and fall they will still mate, lay eggs and feed.
