Spiders

Anytime I think of spiders I get an image of that garage with the sawdust build-up from tool use or I think of a dusty basement that hasn’t been cleaned out in a while.

In the pest industry, there has been a clear leader in micro-encapsulated pesticides that work best for spiders and general preventative pests, and that chemical is Demand CS by Syngenta.

There are a ton of products that will get rid of spiders well. Some of them last a long time and some of them last a few weeks either way with spider chemical you get what you pay for.

Other than chemical the best way to keep spiders away from your home is to keep your home well dusted and clean on the inside, and on the outside, you will want to brush all those spiderwebs down with a cobweb duster.

Here are the top 3 chemicals and the dust that I recommend for treating spiders:

What is Microencapsulation?

Microencapsulated pesticides are insecticides where the pesticide active ingredient whether it is wet or dry is covered with a polymer coating that makes the chemical last longer.

Once the pesticide is dry and a bug walks across the spray area they break the polymer coating or the cap and it releases the pesticide on them. This is an amazing technology that helps make it to where you don’t need to spray as often.

Demand CS

This is the cream of the crop. Demand CS has an active ingredient called lambda-cyhalothrin this is a microencapsulated pesticide with a residual of about 60 days give or take depending on the elements.

Demand has been an industry standard for commercial pest control for years and reflects that in its price. Demand CS (see the current price here on DoMyOwn.com)

This pesticide can be used inside or outside your home for the treatment of spiders and many other pests. If you want something that will last and will stop bugs in their path I recommend picking this one up.

Talstar P

Talstar P is an effective and economic way to keep spiders at bay. Talstar P has an active ingredient of bifenthrin. Talstar P (see the current price on DoMyOwn.com)

Talstar lasts up to 30 days and would need to be re-applied after that amount of time to continue protecting your home. Talstar works great inside or outside your home, however, if you use it inside it will leave a white milky residue on hardwoods and laminates.

Most people will use this chemical on the outside of their home for more broad applications. While inside they use a microencapsulation chemical.

Onslaught Fastcap

One of the spider chemicals I recommend is Onslaught Fastcap (see the current price here on DoMyOwn.com)

I have been using onslaught fastcap for the last year and felt that it deserves an honorable mention on this list.

Onslaught Fastcap has an active ingredient of prallethrin. In its name onslaught fastcap is a microencapsulated chemical and was made to focus mainly on spiders and scorpions.

It does take care of plenty of other pests as well and is a good chemical to use for general pest treatment. If you want a cheaper microencapsulation chemical I recommend picking this up today.

Tempo 1% Dust

The dust I recommend for spiders is Tempo 1% Dust (check the current pricing on DoMyOwn.com). The active ingredient for this chemical is cyfluthrin.

Tempo Dust can be applied in a couple of ways. You can put it directly in a bellows duster to apply it in cracks, wall voids, and underfloor molding.

The 2nd way to apply it is to put it directly on a cobweb duster head while you brush the outside of your home on the eaves soffits, downspouts, and around window and door trimmings.

As long as the dust stays dry it will continue to work. You will want to be aware of the wind and make sure you are wearing at least a paper mask when using this product because it can get away from you pretty quickly.

You don’t need to apply more than a half-ounce onto the duster to get good results.

Summary

All the chemicals I recommended above work well not just on spiders but all three of the liquid chemicals serve as a good preventative pest treatment that gets rid of 100’s of species on bugs.

Thank you for reading and please be safe in the application, mixture, and disposal of all pesticides you decide to use. Please read the label before you mix them or apply them.
